Redneck FAQ

I have done away with most of the messageboard archives. According to my log files, no one reads them anyway. So what I have done is go through all the messages and pick out the questions that seem to be asked most often.

Keep checking back. As time go's on I will be adding more questions and answers.

Q. What do I do when I find Bubba?

A. Hit him in the head with your crowbar. (press the "1" key for your crowbar)

Q. I am playing the Early Years, and when I jump into the pipe at the end of the Dairy Air farms level, I get kicked back to the first level.

A. Thats all the game there is. Early Years and Possum Bayou are just re-packaged versions of the original redneck game. They contain the first episode. Stay clear of these games.

Q. I killed all the bad guys, but the stats screen at the end of the level, says there is 1 varmint left.

A. For some strange reason, Bubba is considered a varmint. You don't kill him, thus one varmint left.

Q. I'm in the silo in Taylortown and I can't get back out of the silo.

A. You can't get back out through the silo. Go back upstairs, in the room where you found the key. There is a ladder that leads up to the roof.

Q. How in the hell do I get out of the sewers?

A. This level has been the source of more frustration. Only thing I can say is use your map (tab key) to see where you have been, and where you haven't been yet.

Q. I'm in the J Clucks level, and it keeps crashing.

A. Try shutting of the chicken assembly line. There is a switch on the fence at the start of the game.

Q. Where can I play Redneck online?

A. Heet and Internet Gaming are 2 online hosts. You might also want to try the Internet Commit driver program on this page.

Q. How do I climb the chain next to the waterfall in the mine level?

A. There is no easy answer to this one. If you have moonshine it makes it easier to jump up on the chain. Otherwise you have to just keep trying.

Q. How do I play the user levels?

A. Unzip (with Winzip) the file into your Redneck or Rides directory. At the prompt type rr [space] -map [space] [mapname] [hit enter] Or for Rides Again, substitute ra for rr.

Q. Where is the level building program, and how do I use it?

A. Its on your Redneck or Rides CD in a directory called Goodies. Copy makemap.exe and kextract.exe into your Redneck or Rides directory. Now download Toms Makemap for Dummies and other tutorials from the makemap page to learn how to use the programs.

Q. In the Ruins level, how do you get the door open with the 3rd key. I hit the switch and the door says 'locked'.

A. There is a 'bug' in the game, which causes the 3rd key not to be recognized. You will have to use the RDKEYS cheat.

Q. OK, so how do I use cheats?

A. First, don't use them. They spoil the game. But if you must, just type in the cheat anytime during the game.

Q. I have the original Redneck game and it works fine. I just installed Rides Again and it wont work.

A. Try copying the redneck.cfg file from Redneck to Redneck Rides. !NOTE! Make a backup of the Rides .cfg file first.

Q. How do I cross the 3 vast in the Smeltin Plant level?

A. Walk around the edge of the center vat, then jump over to the platform. If you drink moonshine before you jump, you should make it OK. If you have no moonshine it may take a few tries until you can get across.

Q. I have AOL and I can't play games online.

A. From what I have been told, AOL wont work.

Q. I am in the Dairy Air Farms level, and I can't find Bubba.

A. There is no Bubba. Jump down the sewer pipe that is behind the locked gate.

Q. There is no level building program on my Deer Huntin CD. Can I build levels?

A. Yes. Just use makemap and kextract from RRRA.

Q. I am having problems with my soundcard, video, or it just doesn't work right in win95 /98.

A. Read Macs 'Running Redneck in windows' FAQ. It takes care of about 99% of all the problems I have heard of.

Another way of running Redneck in windows. By Rhett D. Baldwin

Click on the 'DOS Prompt' icon. Then click on properties. Now change the memory settings all the way up on all the choices.Rhett says to do this because, MS-DOS prompt icon run command.com. and only reserves enough memory to run command.com. Most games require more memory and since they are DOS games, you will not be running a lot of stuff in the background.

Now exit the DOS prompt by typing exit. Then re-run the MS-DOS prompt icon and run the Dos game under that. (This allows windows to commit the entire system resources to the game.
